A Fresh, New Look

3 Secrets To A Professional Looking Paint Job

If you are in the process of repainting your business, you want to make sure that it looks great. There are a few secrets that professionals use that you can employ to ensure that your paint job looks like it was completed by professionals.

Use A Tinted Primer

Before you paint, you need to prime your walls. Priming your walls helps prepare them for the paint. This is especially true if you had to patch the wall and fill in cracks and holes before you painted with joint compound. Joint compound, although it fills in holes, is also known for sucking up paint. Painting over the joint compound with primer will help mitigate this side-effect of preparing your walls for paint.

When you prime your walls, don't use a white primer. Instead, use a tinted primer that is close to the paint that you are covering up, or a tinted primer in a neutral gray tone. This will help cover up the old paint and will ensure that you don't have to put down too many layers of additional paint. When you use a primer, you generally have to apply fewer coats of the primary top coat of paint.

Mix Paint Together

Even when you purchase the same paint, one gallon can look different from the next gallon. The best way to make sure that all of your gallons of paint look the same is by mixing together the individual cans of paint that you purchase into a five-gallon bucket. This will help ensure a consistent color throughout.

If you get low on paint, be sure to add the new paint to the old paint and mix it together to ensure that you get the same color consistency throughout your business. This technique is officially known as boxing within the painting industry.

Add Paint Extender or Conditioner

Finally, be sure to add paint extender or paint conditioner to your paint. Both of these products are essentially the same, even though the name differs. Adding paint extender to the paint will extend the time that it takes the paint to dry, ensuring that you are able to use up all of the paint you bought before it dries. However, one of the biggest benefits of mixing paint extender with your paint is that it will help even out your brush marks as you apply multiple coats of paint. It is an effective way to reduce or eliminate the appearance of brush strokes on your paint job.

If you decide to paint your business on your own, be sure to use the tricks above. If you don't have the time to paint your business on your own, hiring a commercial painting service will ensure the job is done right.
