Getting Through A Painting Project Without Error
Are you tired of your surroundings? Do you need some kind of a change around the house but don't want to spend a fortune to make those changes? Well, one thing that you can do that is affordable and will make a huge impact in the appearance of your home is an interior paint job. Here, you'll find a few tips to make the project easier to manage.
Start with a Good Cleaning
The very first thing that you'll need to do before you even pop the lid on the paint is to wipe down the walls, ceilings and floors in the areas that you'll be painting. The more dust and debris floating around the house, the more likely it is to end up in the paint. If you wipe down each surface, you won't have to worry about cobwebs and dust bunnies on the paintbrush.
Tip: As you clean the surfaces, carry a piece of chalk with you to mark any areas that you find that will need some patch-work before it can be painted.
Patch the Holes
Holes will need to be patched, and to do this, you'll need a small container of joint compound, a putty knife and some sandpaper. Apply the compound to the hole and allow it to dry. Sand it smooth. Wipe the surface with a slightly dampened cloth.
Sand the Rough Spots
If there are brush marks from the last paint job or if there are rough areas on the surface, you'll need to sand it smooth. Use some fine-grit sandpaper to smooth the finish. Wipe the surface clean with a slightly dampened cloth.
Prime the Repaired Areas
Any areas that have been patched, you'll need to apply a coat of primer to before it can be painted. If you paint over the patches without applying the primer, you'll end up with an inconsistent finish. Once the primer is applied, allow it to fully dry before you begin painting.
Tape It Off
You might be thinking that you have a steady enough hand to avoid getting paint on the trim and other things that the paint shouldn't get on. There is little chance that you'll get the entire project done without making several mistakes and getting frustrated with yourself. Take the time to tape off the trim.
Talk with your local painters like Walls-N-All Painting if you don't feel up to taking on this project. Before you know it, you'll find yourself in the surroundings that you feel comfortable and happy in.
