A Fresh, New Look

Making Life Easier On Your Painting Contractor

Hiring a painting contractor can take a lot of pressure off of you. It's really nice to know that someone else is going to bring all the equipment and worry about whether the line along the ceiling is straight! Still, your painting contractor is only human, and they can and will do better work if you do a few things to make their job (and life) easier. Here's how to do that!

1. Decide what you want up-front

Before you even contact the painters to schedule your job, have a general idea of what you want. You don't have to know exactly what shade of gray you want, but knowing that you want the room gray will save your painter a lot of time that they might otherwise have to spend discussing options with you. Know what rooms you want painted, whether you want the ceilings done, and so forth. This allows your painter to more accurately estimate how long your job will take, which will make it easier for them to schedule you.

2. Clear furniture out of the way

Take the time to move all of the furniture into the center of your rooms. This way, the painters can just cover the one big stack with plastic, rather than having to individually cover all of the furniture. If you're feeling really ambitious, you can put the plastic wraps over the furniture for your painters! This is normally something they do, but you'll save them time by doing it yourself.

3. Put down cardboard or mats for walking

Lay down some cardboard from the door to the rooms that your painter will be painting. Use tape to secure the cardboard to the carpet or floor. (Don't worry — painter's tape and masking tape should both peel off without leaving a residue.) This way, your painters can leave their shoes on when they come in the house rather than having to take them on and off as they bring their equipment in.

4. Stock up on snacks and drinks

You are not obligated to supply your painters with food or drinks, but they will definitely appreciate it if you do. Offering them some snacks and drinks may help them keep moving on your project since they won't have to leave and get these things.

Treat your painters well, and they will treat you well. As long as you keep the tips above in mind, you will be on the right track. For more information about paint jobs, contact a local painting contractor.
